Air Quality Project with Menzies
Menzies School of Health Research recently announced they’d received funding for a new project focused on improving environmental health, and environmental health awareness, in East Arnhem Land. “Air in East Arnhem” will commence in 2024.

Garma Festival 2023
Garma Festival is Australia’s largest annual Indigenous gathering. This year, from 4 – 7 August, Miwatj Health staff gathered at Gulkula to run health clinics, celebrate Yolŋu culture and raise awareness about the state of health in East Arnhem Land.

Garma 2023 provided an opportunity for great discussions. Miwatj CEO, Steve Rossingh, took part in these Garma conversations throughout the 4-day festival, spreading the message that, when it comes to health, Yolŋu deserve better.

NAIDOC Week 2023 was celebrated by Miwatj Health staff all over East Arnhem Land, in Darwin, online, and beyond. Events ran across communities from 2 – 9 July, all focusing on this year’s theme, ‘For Our Elders’.
Renal Society of Australasia Conference 2023
The 2023 Renal Society of Australasia Conference took place in Sydney from 29 – 31 May. Miwatj Health Regional Renal Coordinators made the long journey down south to contribute to the theme: “Together Towards a Brighter Future”.
Plain English Health Dictionary
The Plain English Health Dictionary is here! This resource was developed in consultation with the Aboriginal Interpreter Service (AIS) and translates medical concepts into plain English so that more people can make informed health decisions.
Orange Sky Laundry in Gapuwiyak
Orange Sky Laundry officially started operations in Gapuwiyak in May. This permanent installment will see the Orange Sky team collaborating with Miwatj Public Health to provide direct referrals for the community over the next 3 years.
Recruitment in Ramingining
Miwatj Health Recruitment and Public Health Teams attended ALPA’s second annual Opportunities Expo in Ramingining on Friday 26 May. The event was a huge success, with numerous community members showing interest in Miwatj djäma (jobs).
Djamarrkuli Health Month in Galiwin’ku
Djamarrkuli Health Month took place in Galiwin’ku during May – a huge operation aimed at getting youth immunisations and health checks up to date. This initiative’s success was thanks to help from RAHC, Shepherdson College & a range of key stakeholders.
